I’m sure by now you might’ve seen this meme
I haven’t just started seeing it this year, there were different versions for 2016, 2017, 2018… I seriously feel like this most years.
The last 3 months of the year are usually SO full of activities, events, meetings, parties, etc. that when January 1st rolls around, and I’m still in bed from being up WAY past my bedtime the night before, and hungover from thinking that an all night, champagne diet is a good idea, the last thing I want to do is get started on New Year’s “Resolutions” or getting my schedule/calendar going for the coming year.
This year I was particularly bad, I didn’t even get my 2019 planner or calendars until well into the 2nd week of the month!
I don’t have a brand of planners that I like, so I tried a new one I found from Office Depot by Emily Ley. What drew me to this planner first was the design, obvi! And second was the size. I’ve always gotten sort of thick planners, thinking it would give me enough room to keep notes in order to stay really organized, and floral designs were usually my thing!
I was wanting something simpler, smaller, thinner, so that I could take with me easily in a tote bag. Regardless of the design, I always prefer a weekly planner, with ample room to write for daily activities. After being pleased with this planner meeting those requirements, I flipped through the pages and found the rest of the planner amazing as well. A 2019 Holiday list, and a Bucket List (which I love so much more than “Resolutions”!), to-do lists EVERYWHERE, colorful tabs & icons, and even “instructions” on how to use it. I really loved the “Simplicity Tip” it gives for each month as well.
I use a lot of colored pens to keep my planner looking interesting, but I don’t necessarily have it color coded, lol! Yet. That and stickers will be my project for 2020 🙂
I keep a wall calendar for major things like birthdays, events, dinners, appointments, and vacations that I have planned. I will use the wall calendar from last year to transfer important dates to remember to update my new calendar, and then I update as things come along.
This year I’m trying a new thing with a very thin notebook one of my best girlfriends gifted to me for Christmas, where I keep a running to-do list, and other various notes that I jot down as they come to mind.
Don’t get me wrong, because pretty much this paper notebook is the equivalent to my Notes app, but there is something so satisfying about crossing out tasks with a pen.
This is the year I (hopefully) stay really organized in all aspects of my life –
- I work full time
- I run a blog
- I run a skin care business
- I like to have fun
- I like to take days to relax
These aren’t a lot, but as time goes on, that list gets so much longer! And I’m trying to create good habits from now. Wish me luck!
How do you like to use planners to stay organized? I’d love suggestions for color-coding as well.
