Well. It’s been quite a week.

It’s hard to believe that it’ll be 70° through the weekend since we had a minor ice-pocalypse at the start of the week.

But this is Houston. Nothing new. Honestly, sometimes I wish for a mini-disaster like ice or snow in our southern, humid little city for an extra day of repose that you don’t have to request off. Even BETTER was that it fell a day after MLK day, which a good handful of people had off. Including me.

So I had Monday off, which turned into “All school districts are closed, if you decide to come in, please use caution”- Tuesday, which then turned into “there’s an overnight hard freeze warning, school districts remain closed”-Wednesday.

It was glorious!

Here’s the thing about Texas though, our weather is relatively temperate all year round, so something like a flood or ice/sleet/snow make us all a little stir crazy!

However, considering I’m on my own now, I wasn’t quite as prepared as I should’ve been for the impending doom. I was out of town the weekend, and returned late Sunday, spending Monday resting my minor sinus infection/enjoying my God-given day off. So I had no food.

In vain, I tried ordering pizza for delivery. But they weren’t delivering. So we tried Uber Eats, ’cause you know people be hustlin’ if they driving for Uber! The order was placed, processed, made and PICKED UP, but then… they cancelled on us.

In fury, we walked down to the bar Down the Street, literally down the street, for some sustenance & alcohol, you know – to keep us warm (and sane #Texas).

Even though it wasn’t Pink’s pizza, and we had to venture out in the cold, it was still such a good time!!

Just being able to get out of the house, finally finding somewhere open, enjoying the rare weather and good company – Houston Snow-mageddon 2018 was definitely one for the books.

Hope everyone is having as an eventful start of the year as us here in the south!

I blinked on October 31st, and now we’re already at the beginning of December. What!?

October and November this year – 2 of my 3 favorite months! – were 2 of the worst on record in 2017. Worst is quite the exaggeration, so I’ll retract that and just say that they freaking blew… Tough situations within the Greek community, and when you have friends that you’re so close to that they’re basically family go through something tough, it effects you too!… My best friend moved to Colorado… those things and more that just made the last 2 months feel like a never ending rainy season of facing very adult situations. Life came barreling at me.

But with all the rain, came some good. If it doesn’t rain, then we don’t grow. God’s timing of things is NEVER random. You do not go through tough times without God’s light eventually shining through and giving you a rainbow.

I have nothing but excitement for the future now, which, is a very calming feeling for someone who has a LOT of anxiety. I get caught up in what the future may hold and forget to stop and focus on what I can control in this exact moment. (I see myself doing MUCH yoga to keep myself grounded, especially with my knee feeling better with each passing day – holla!)

Granted, I took an EPIC trip to Europe that I’ll never forget and cherish forever, which was a ray of sunshine in an otherwise gloomy season in my life. (which I’ll FINALLY get to in December! so PLEASE stay tuned!). The future has so much more in store for me, and with that, I can enter this last month of 2017 with a better attitude and maybe even lose my superstition of odd number years (more on that another time).

Kalo Mina!! The first day of a new month is always really exciting, but the first day of a new October?!? Y’all.

Here’s a list of reasons why October is the best out of all the other 12 months of the year (no offense to anyone!! But these are the hard facts) :

  1. The weather in Houston gets consistently better – we may not cool off completely, and there can be high humidity days well into “fall” but we do get more “cool” fronts coming though promising for drier air, which paired with dropped temperatures is BAE.
    • Good weather also subsequently means great hair and makeup days, and getting to wear cute semi-fall outfits without melting
  2. Greek Festival is always the first full weekend of October.
  3. It’s Festival season – Turkish Festival, the Italian Festival, Bayou City Art Festival…
  4. It’s wedding season for this usually stifling hot city
  5. Princess Maria day falls around the 3rd weekend of the month
  6. HALLOWEEN!

This first day of October is also extra special this year as it’s officially one month post op! I hit 4 weeks this past Friday. I can’t say it’s been the easiest of journeys, but I’m walking better, quicker, and faster; swelling has gone down a lot compared to the first couple of weeks after my surgery, and I’m feeling better walking in other shoes besides sneakers!! When this is all said and done, I think I’ll miss having a good excuse to wear sneakers with all my dresses all the time.

Having had ACL surgery years ago, I was expecting a meniscectomy to be a walk in the park in comparison. Having ACL reconstruction was definitely a huge challenge for me, putting me out of commission for dancing or really much physical activity for about 6 months. Being the echelon for what I’d consider a knee surgery to be like, plus my doctor and nurses making meniscus surgery out to sound like nothing considering recovery is only about 4-6 weeks and you can bear weight on it immediately post op, I seriously was expecting to rebound within no time at all. Having my standards set pretty high for where I’d be at this point, and not be there has been rough.

I knew I had to change my expectations and my outlook otherwise this was going to be a ridiculously long journey without the right mindset.

It’s tough not being able to be as active as I want to be, but being a month post op already and feeling great, I know in due time I WILL be back to working out, wearing heels and DANCING!

Probably just in time for Princess Maria Day!

Bardot, black/white striped, bodycon dress – Express Denim Jacket – H&M Black/white Superstars – Adidas (obvi)

Wishing you all a wonderful and super fun, October!!

Hi friends

giphy

It’s been almost exactly a year since my last blog post. So naturally it’s like – where the HECK have I been!? Right? Maybe not.

Besides buying makeup, clothes, shoes and accessories – I made some pretty significant life changes as pertains to my relationship status. That’s a pretty private subject, which I won’t go into extreme detail but it definitely caused a ripple effect into how I left The Glam Greek blog, insta, and FB page in the dust. However, after a particularly defeated feeling epoch of the last year, a really special character came into my life and I’m so thankful to have him in my life, because he just wants to see me shine and has such a creative eye, with that and with his support, help and love, I really see some outstanding updates to the aforementioned social media outlets and I can’t wait!

I’m ready to get back into a lot of things that I had left on the back burner the past 12 months for reasons that are much more of an excuse for laziness rather than actual plausible explanations of why I should neglect hobbies that I love and that fulfill me.

In addition to all of the above – I have started a new business venture that really has me inspired to share with you all. More on that in posts to come.

If you are still following me after my 12 month hiatus – you the real MVP & I love you!! If you left and started following again after a couple of revival posts and are reading this – I still love you! If you are just now finding out about this blog and feel that it’s worth your time to stay around and check out what’s in store – I love you & I would like to promise that this blog can be somewhat enjoyable so hang out with me some more!

Stay tuned for our regularly scheduled programming
