So… I’m starting to feel a little distressed…

I got an email from Old Navy of things I might like, featuring polos and khaki shorts. As in like, school uniforms!!

Then… it’s Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale, my favorite local boutiques are starting to bring in their fall inventory and I’m like, but WAIT!! Where the &#%! does summer think it’s going?! It just got here!

The start of spring honestly doesn’t even feel quite that long ago, yet here we are! In fact, the other day I had a friend over for dinner and referred to the end of April as “oh… like a month or so ago…” while telling a story, not even realizing that in fact it’s been THREE months; I mean, we’re already at the decrescendo-ing part of this month. The next thing you know, it’s August! Which is basically the Sunday of the summer months.

With the end of summer quickly approaching, I’m only a little sad though, because honestly, I’m a fall baby and this heat is just too, too much. Once we get into the last third of the year, especially in Houston, the weather is astronomically more bearable than it is during the “June, July, August” quarter of the year; it really opens up a larger variety of things you can do outside! (Okay, you can literally do anything outside, during any sort of weather, but when the temperatures are hovering around 100F with an index of about 115F, well… you don’t really quite want to sit on a patio, now do you?)

I may be partial to one month of the year in particular, but there’s one other time that is quite nice here in Houston, and that’s the sweet, sweet, Springtime months of March, April, May, which 2018 had some AWESOME things for me here in these few months. 2018 was the year of the Music Festival; something that I had practically written myself off as too old for –  I used to go to raves all the time back in college during a particularly rambunctious time of my life, but I always had SO MUCH FUN!!! However, going to In Bloom Fest here in Houston and Coachella in Indio, CA and seeing all of the kids there in the median age of 23, and judging by the way my body felt after both of these parties, yeah, I did feel old. But I still had SO MUCH FUN!!!

Being the makeup junkie that I am, the best part of a musical festival is the crazy, eclectic, fun makeup looks that you can create and still look like a(n almost) totally normal person in public. This one in particular is so bright yet subtle at the same time, it’s perfect for anytime of the season.

Spring/Summer 2018 has been a fun time for me, but I’m ready for the temps to drop a little.

Although, I hate how “early” the fall starts here, especially in a part of the country that doesn’t feel fall weather until well into the month of October, if that. Even though retailers are shoving fall everything down our throats, which means pumpkin spice EVERYTHING is right around the corner, enjoy the last, sweet fleeting moments of the summer!

“Their courage nerves a thousand living men”

– Minot J. Savage

People get the call to do many incredible things in life that are bigger than them; teachers, priests/preachers, doctors, those in monastic life, and soldiers, just to name a few. There are those that despite imminent sacrifices, know they will heal the sick, will spread His word, will help to mold the minds of our next generations, and will possibly lose their life for their country. When someone decides to leave the comforts of civilian life and become property of their government, they chose to serve others in a way we could never imagine. They are choosing possible aftereffects of being in and seeing war, they are choosing to remove themselves from milestones in their own family’s lives to put themselves on the front lines so that others can enjoy being a free civilian, so that others will not have to suffer as they do, so that their families can enjoy important milestones.

There are a handful of holidays on our calendar that seem a little frivolous to me – used as a tool by the greeting card or beer companies so that we throw parties and spend senseless amounts of money. But the reason behind the holidays can’t be ignored. Take Mother’s Day for example, we all come from the womb of our mothers, she raises us despite any hardship and we give her only one day of thanks on the calendar. Same goes to the fallen heroes of our country. I don’t know how to say thank you enough to the men and women who decide to take that path, and often times give everything they have, right to their very last breath, to a much larger purpose in life – to serve others and their country.

We spend this long weekend, usually the kick-off to the summer season, barbecuing, sun-bathing, enjoying time with our families – which is exactly what I was blessed to do this weekend, without spending too much longer than a moment of silence for those that have lost their lives preserving this very right for celebration. On our way home from the beach, I had ample amount of time to reflect and became very inspired…

I want to do a mini blog series where I ask dudes what they think of different makeup and fashion trends. Overall, men tend to like natural makeup or a nice red lip. But eff what the guys think, am I right? It was a low-key Sunday Funday with church, brunch and a spa day, so I kept my makeup low key to match… and also because bae likes the natural look. (actually he likes all the makeup looks)

EYES

Brows : MAC “Espresso” eyeshadow, cleaned with MAC Studio Finish concealer in NC35
MAC Paint Pot in “Soft Ochre”
MAC “Soft Brown”, “Saddle” & “Handwritten” in the crease
Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow in “Thunderstruck” on lid & brow bone
Coloured Raine “Crown” from the Queen of Hearts Palette in the inner corner
Anastasia Beverly Hills Pro Pencil in Base 1 for the water line
MAC “Sketch” smudged on the lower lash line
L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black

FACE

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
Chanel Poudre Universelle to set foundation
Highlight : MAC Light Boost
Chanel Transluscent Powder to set highlight
Bronzer/Contour : Nars Laguna + Too Faced Chocolate Soleil
MAC Warm Soul for blush
Shimmer highlight – Kat Von D Thunderstruck + Laura Geller Gilded Honey
LIPS – Limecrime Cupid Velvetine from the True Love trio

Why is natural makeup always just as hard as a full on beat? I only save like maybe 12 minutes from my total get ready time if that. And I was still late to church!
