Kalo Mina!!! Today is exactly 6 months to a brand new year! 2020 is coming in as quick as the first half of the year has passed, so naturally it’s time for a reality check.

Resolution : a firm decision to do or not to do something, something that is resolved
Goal : an aim or a desired result

The very definition of resolution itself sets me up for failure before I can even come up with a new year’s resolution amidst the holiday chaos. So I make goals! And here’s the thing about New Year’s “Goals” – if your goal is to lose weight, then if you fall a little short of the goal, it’s not like you’re a TOTAL failure. On the contrary with resolutions; if that isn’t resolved by the end of the year – done. You did not complete the task, and you suck.

Just kidding, at the end of the day, it’s really not that serious. For me, it’s a mindset. A goal is something that I constantly work for, but now’s the time to check myself, where am I at with what I had aimed for at the beginning of the year.

  • Change of Scenery
    • I felt I had reached a dead end at work, so I knew I needed to finally take the jump and explore something bigger. In March, I got a really amazing call and started a new gig in May! Check!
  • Be & Stay More Organized.
    • Sooo… I have not been consistent with my day to day planner that I throw in my bag to stay organized, BUT I have been pretty good with the TimeTree app! I use it with my boyfriend to keep up with extremely busy social and work calendars. Now if I could just keep up with the personal reminders… That’ll be second half of the year
  • Clean Up Eating & Cut Back on # of Glasses of Wine
    • I started a new relationship last year, and when you first start dating, it’s all fun and games until you can’t fit in your pants. Then the holidays came around, and I just wasn’t ready to fully commit against drinking a good glass or two of wine, especially after a truly hectic day! Now, I’ve finally tried Whole30, and have only a couple days left in my first round! Check!
  • Purge Makeup Stash & Reorganizing
    • I’ve bought bins from Container Store to organize makeup in my Ikea Alex drawers. That’s about as far as I’ve gotten.
  • Create Gallery Wall for Bathroom & Bedroom
    • I have acquired a couple of frames, etc… That’s about it
  • Be More Aware of My Finances
    • Spreadsheets!!! I never thought Excel would become my favorite Microsoft Office application, especially since I use it everyday for work. I haven’t solved all my financial questions, but I’m in the baby steps to a great habit none-the-less. I consider this a win.

If you have work left to do towards any resolutions or goals you had for the year, I’m right there with you. It’s not time to give up yet! Don’t let anyone stop you or get in your way, you’ve come so far already. We’ve got this.

It’s already been a full week into the new year and we’re well on our way into 2019, but I definitely feel like I needed a week recovery before really delving in, so this past Monday was really, like the “official” start, ya feel?

I finally bought a planner, and a wall calendar… I’ve only written like 4 things in it so far, but the one I got for this new year says to utilize this first month to reflect on last year because despite the lows, there were LOTS of highs and it was a heck of a good time!

January – March

  • I started my year at a new place inside the loop – I’m officially a city girl!
  • Started Festival Season at In Bloom Fest
  • Girls Trip to Vegas, went in almost as a complete stranger to this group and came out part of a She-Wolf pack. My heart was full!

April – June

  • I bought my first big girl car
  • LA Trip/Coachella
  • Miss Houston Latina
  • Totally Rad 90’s party
  • Lake Travis

July – September

  • New dates <3
  • Ellada <3
  • Bachelorette Parties

October – December

  • Greek Festival
  • Princess Maria Day – Twenty-Fine edition
  • Austin, TX
  • The Holidays…

I always feel that before I can really get into the new year, I have to look back at all that I did the year before. It’s something I’ve always done and puts me in a really good place! The latter part of 2017 left me in a dark spot, and I spent most of 2018 learning A LOT. But the ride was fun and I’m ready to keep learning, to keep evolving and for this book to keep going. Cheers to all that happened last year and cheers to all that’s to come.

My obsession with makeup has it’s perks. I’ve gotten quite good at the art, and if I can’t think of or find anything to wear for a special occasion, I can wear all black and make my makeup the center of attention.

Luxe items like sequins, sparkles, fur and velvet have been widely in trend as of late, but with the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I didn’t even think to find something to wear when the clock strikes 12 on December 31st. So when I finally went on the hunt for the perfect New Year’s Eve outfit this past weekend, I was straight out of luck. Lots of things were picked over and I just couldn’t convince myself to buy something I only had lukewarm feelings about just to have an outfit worthy of one night. (is that called adulting??)

So it was time to get creative with the pieces I already have in my closet and bust out the beauty products to turn me into a disco ball! Glitter is my favorite color, but loose glitter is hard to work with, even for a professional like myself! It takes a lot of time and patience, and I unfortunately have to work on December 31st, so time is of the essence to ensure I make it to my party before the ball drops.

Stila launched a product around 2014, a semi-solid glitter product called Foil Finish eyeshadow, and as it’s name suggests, had more of a foil finish than glitter, but was very glittery. But you had to mix it with a mixing medium or apply with your fingers to get the best results which could get a little complicated and messy. Then they got smart and launched their Glitter and Glow eyeshadows in 2017 (which I first tried & featured in this haul here) which is MUCH MORE USER FRIENDLY! And have since launched a much wider array of colors. They retail for $24.00 at Sephora, Ulta and the Stila website.

NYX recently launched their own line of a similar product called Glitter Goals. The NYX version retails for $8 and can be found at most beauty supply stores, NYX store fronts & website, Ulta, and even Target. Both have a doe foot applicator that make it easy to apply straight from the applicator, by using a flat eyeshadow brush (you’ll get optimum results by using a synthetic brush vs natural hair), or with your finger. If you can tell from the photo above, the Stila Glitter and Glow has more of chunky glitter property to the product while the NYX version is more of a foil with a subtle, shimmery glitter.

Both products are very good, if you have the funds to splurge, I highly recommend Stila. But if you’re on a budget, you’ll be just as happy with the NYX version. I find that both products fare better layered on top of another color or base shadow vs on their own as the swatch above shows.

If you’re strapped for time and don’t have any idea of where you’ll find something sparkly to wear in time to ring in the new year, my advice would be to run to your nearest Ulta and grab either of the 2 products from this post. (Ulta always has coupons for “non-prestige” brands like NYX, fyi).

Wishing you all a sparkly, glittery, glamorous and fabulous New Year!

Well, we’ve made it to the second weekend of 2018, y’all!

If you’ve never had a hangover before, I’d say the first 10 days succeeding the holidays is much like one – your head (and everything else on your body) hurts, you’re trying to get back into the groove of day-to-day life while feeling bloated and gassy from all of the alcohol, carbs and calories and telling yourself that you’ll never celebrate the holidays so hard again.

The past few years I personally have not been able to bounce right back into the swing of things on January 1st, and this year was definitely no different especially in the fact that I made the genius decision to move New Year’s Eve weekend. I was adamant in starting the New Year in my new place but had little plan of how I would do that. So I called the movers, got my bed and night-stand over and would figure out how to haul the rest. Although it was a hectic time to make the move, I’m so happy that I’m writing my first post of this year from my new digs!

This year’s NYE was chill AF, but spent away from my fam! Being a minority means that your holidays MUST be spent with your family. But what if you’re brought up in the States and are 28 years old? Yeah, I wanted to spend it out with my friends for once, ya know?

Here’s the thing though – my friends are chill AF, and it was a glorified lounge fest which I LOVED because I wore heels, but I didn’t really have to wear them.

And then we had a photo shoot, because they’re my friends and we’re kinda cute!

Even though it was chill af, I obviously made sure I dressed & glammed up extra AF. If there were ever a time to stay true to my Glam Greek self, it’s the holidays.

I paired my favorite holiday sweatshirt with a white beanie with gold metallic stitching together with a gold sequined skirt & red heels to coordinate with this gorgeous red lipstick by MAC called “Fashion Legacy”. I wanted to bring in 2018 as stylish as ever to bring in a stylish New Year. I completed my look with a gold smokey eye using the Too Faced Chocolate Gold palette which I’m LOVING! (review coming soon)

I’ve had a pretty hectic start to 2018, and actually am spending this second weekend of the year fighting off a nasty sinus infection. But just because the start of this year hasn’t been what I expected, neither is life, it doesn’t mean it won’t be stellar. 2018 is going to be a good year, y’all, I can feel it.

Hugs, kisses, and best wishes for 2018!!

All my love,

The Glam Greek
